Both states were shaken by heavy rains and gale force winds late into the night. No one has seen or heard of such a catastrophe in the last several years. The speed of the wind seemed to be preparing to uproot everything on earth.

The people of Odisha and Bengal saw a glimpse of devastation within hours of the storm. Everything in Calcutta was in turmoil before the hurricane subsided. The city was flooded. The carriages floated like boats. Trees were uprooted from the roads. Huge hoardings, electric poles were also uprooted.
