One month waiting in the only cotton procurement center in Kutch!

Farmers in Kutch are being sent back after registering for a month's waiting at the only Anjar procurement center for cotton support prices. Then how to preserve cotton after the onset of monsoon? Have been thrown into such confusion. On the other hand, according to the allegations, officials, brokers and millers are making sixty-knot excuses to force farmers to sell cotton in the open market at low prices. There is a demand to take steps in this direction and give justice to the farmers.

In Kutch district, cotton is cultivated in eighty talukas including Abdasa, Lakhpat, Rapar. Many farmers could not sell cotton as the lockdown was announced just in time for the cotton crop to be ready. Such farmers are now selling cotton.

On the other hand, cotton is being procured at support price by CCI in Anjar, the only district in Kutch. According to the complaints raised from the farmers, when a farmer comes here to sell cotton in a vehicle, the first turn will come after a month, write the name and number and get it registered. That is the answer. A farmer who has come from a distance of 100-150 kms by paying rent is not going to take another push. In addition, most of the farmers' cotton is rejected on the pretext that the grade is poor even if it is the first cotton.

Thus, various excuses are being used to force farmers to sell cotton in the open market. Later brokers and millers are grabbing farmers' cotton at a lower price. Because farmers do not have the system to store cotton in monsoon. Also, with the onset of monsoon season, farmers are in dire need of money.

With immediate effect, all farmers have been asked to buy cotton at support prices. Thousands of mounds of cotton are still lying in farmers' houses in Kutch. Farmers need money, including payment of wages. Alleging that the BJP political leaders in Kutch were busy getting cheap publicity instead of making arrangements for the farmers at that time, District Congress General Secretary and Leader of Opposition of Anjar TP Arjanbhai Khatria has demanded to start procurement centers in other talukas as well.

Farmers are forced to sell cotton at a nominal price of Rs 150 to Rs 1,200

The support price of 40 kg of cotton in the purchase done by CCI at the support price is Rs. But after the rejection of cotton, such cotton is seized from the farmers in the open market at a price of only Rs. 1950 to 1800. The game is being played in front of the eyes of political leaders representing the people, some of whom are even involved. Yet leaders who make futures and promises do nothing for farmers.
