Locust attacks have now become a major problem for people facing the epidemic of corona epidemic. Locust pests cause severe damage to crops in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Odisha. While farmers are not getting a fair price for their crops in the lockdown, locust terror has added to the woes of farmers on ready crops in Amreli district. Locust infestation is going on in many villages of Lilia, Savarkundla, Khambha, Jafrabad and Botad of Amreli district.
According to one estimate, locust swarms have damaged crops in 50,000 hectares so far. Now, however, it is likely to return in July with monsoon winds. According to the Department of Agriculture, the spread of locusts is increasing. Tractor firefighters, drones are spraying pesticides in the fields. About 50 liters of pesticide has been sprayed to kill the locusts, but it is not enough to eradicate the locusts.
It is necessary to eradicate locust eggs completely before the arrival of monsoon in the state, otherwise this problem can take a big form as, after monsoon, farmers start sowing crops in the fields. In such a situation, locust swarms will ruin the crop and destroy it completely.
